The Greater Birmingham Fiber Guild

The Greater Birmingham Fiber Guild GBFG Our Work in Pictures

Welcome!

Welcome to THE GREATER BIRMINGHAM FIBER GUILD web site. We are a group of fiber enthusiasts from Birmingham, Alabama who meet at least once a month to knit, crochet, tat, bobbin lace, weave, spin, felt, dye, talk about and play with fiber.

Our meetings are on the second Saturday of every month September through June at 10:00 a.m. until about noon. We don't have a general meeting in July or August. We do have small interest groups that meet once a month so when you visit ask about the spinning, bobbin lace, and tatting study groups.

Please check the monthly meetings to see where we will be meeting. We are at Bare Hands Gallery-Richard Arrington Blvd. most months. We also have picnics, get togethers and workshops in various places.

October Meeting

 Tapping into Your Creative Process….
Our Saturday, October 10th meeting will be an exciting one lead by Annette Reynolds. We all are creative in the fiber areas we work in – dyeing, weaving, knitting, crocheting, felting, tatting, etc – but how many of us have really explored how we create the projects we make. No, not just the mechanics of our craft – but also the conscious and unconscious choices we make to compose their shapes and structures. What draws us to certain colors, patterns, etc? Annette will be guiding us through some experiences that will assist us to gain more understanding about our individual creative processes.

The program will begin at 10 am, with the business meeting occurring afterwards.  We again will be meeting at Bare Hands Gallery at 109 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd South. Looking forward to seeing you there with your creative inquiries in hand!!!!

Guild Equipment for Rent

The Guild has some equipment available for rent. Most floor looms, table looms, spinning wheel and carder are available for just $5.00 per month with your membership. It's a good way to see if you want to spin or weave before you invest in the equipment. We have just purchased a new (to us) spinning wheel. Please ask about renting it.

Single Member – $25.00

Family - $30.00

To join the Guild please send a check to: GBFG, P.O. Box 660723, Birmingham, AL 35266-0723.

Current Projects

Check out our latest Homewood Library Show "All About Lace." We have a good selection of lace pieces from our members and the Show is a feast for the eyes!

The display will be at the Library the month of October. Please make arrangements with Karen Ford or Debbie Scott to pick up your pieces on Friday, October 30 when they take everything down.

The Show and Sale at St. Peter's is scheduled for October 17 and 18. More information was sent out to the email list or ask Karen Ford.

When you have some spare time, don't forget we are still donating hats for preemie newborn babies. Since it was so successful last year and there is a real need for these we have decided to continue this year. They don't take long to make and are very appreciated.

I hope you are all working on your December exchange gift bags. Make a bag you would be willing to have for yourself. Any fiber technique is acceptable. You can spin or buy the yarn, knit, weave, tat, felt or use a combination of your fiber skills to create a one of a kind bag. At the exchange, when you bring a bag you will get a bag. It will be fun!

One more item, if you are looking for a gently used spinning wheel or weaving loom send an email. A couple of our members have some for sale.
